Tribute is paid to Sir Christopher Meyer, former British Ambassador to Washington and spokesman for John Main, after his loss of life on the age of 78.

He joined the International Workplace in 1966. Sir Christopher later served as press secretary for John Main from 1993 to 1996.

From 1997, he took on the position of Ambassador to the US, which he retained for six years.

Sir Christopher’s loss of life was confirmed by performing ambassador Karen Pierce on Twitter.

Ms. Pierce wrote that he was “an important diplomat and an impressive character”.

“Our ideas are with Katherine and his household,” she added.

Sir Christopher revealed his memoir DC Confidential in 2005, recounting his time as ambassador.

It included scathing criticism of former Prime Minister Tony Blair for his conduct within the interval main as much as the Iraq Battle.

The Every day Mail reported that Sir Christopher suffered a stroke whereas on vacation along with his spouse Katherine within the French Alps.

Boris Johnson additionally paid tribute to the “devoted public servant”.

He stated: “Grieved by the information of the loss of life of Sir Christopher Meyer.

“He has been a devoted civil servant all through his profession and has devoted his life to worldwide diplomacy.

“My ideas are along with his spouse Katherine and his family members.”
