NEW BEDFORD. The newly opened lab on the College of Massachusetts Dartmouth will assist analysis and product improvement for the blue economic system, with a concentrate on biodegradable plastics.

MIT Chancellor Mark Fuller stated in an announcement that the lab will assist the “fast-growing blue economic system by increasing analysis in crucial areas comparable to ocean sustainability, ecosystem monitoring, renewable power, and the event of latest marine applied sciences.”

College students and college will collaborate in a lab to measure the biodegradation of merchandise in areas comparable to landfills, ocean, soil, compost and wastewater, UMass stated in an announcement, and can purpose to speed up the introduction of sustainable supplies to market.

The college created the lab with a $739,936 grant from the Massachusetts Expertise Collaborative and a $450,000 funding from New York-based textile producer PrimaLoft Inc.

UMass Dartmouth additionally collaborates with the Marine Organic Laboratory at Woods Gap; SeaAhead in Boston; Paramount Planet Product in Maine; Radical Plastic in Beverly, Massachusetts; College of Massachusetts at Boston; College of Massachusetts Lowell; and the US Military Soldier Fight Capabilities Improvement Command Middle.
